About Gardens of Fire

At Gardens of Fire, we are passionate about regenerating soil and combating climate change through the power of carbon, pyrolysis, and biochar. Based in Durango, Colorado, we upcycle local carbon materials, like beetle-kill wood, into biochar to enrich soils, retain water, and reduce wildfire risks. Our work is rooted in education and action, empowering communities to create a regenerative future for generations to come.

Our Mission

Our mission is to regenerate soil, spread awareness and create experiences through biochar, and inspire action toward a healthier, more resilient planet. By connecting people with regenerative tools and knowledge, we aim to help reverse desertification, mitigate wildfires, and foster biodiversity in the soil.

What We Offer

Biochar Production

We transform local carbon sources into biochar through a process call Pyrolyzation. This unique but simple process transforms the carbon into a long-lasting soil amendment that enhances soil structure, water retention, and fertility. It is best practice to blend raw biochar with good compost before usage. Our process sources beetle-kill wood and compost from Southwest Coloroado.

Education & Workshops

Gardens of Fire hosts workshops and educational sessions to teach communities about biochar production and its implementation in agricultural and regenerative land management. Learn how biochar can be a powerful tool in improving soil health, mitigating wildfire risks, and much more. Our workshops explain the basics and background of biochar, as well as how to create your own biochar safely and cost effectively.

We are starting a new regenerative farm in Durango that is focused on biochar as a foundation to our agricultural strategy. All of our biochar in our soil will be artisanally produced, fertilized (charged) and installed within our ecosystem. Currently, we make a small surplus for local projects and other farmers.

Get hands on experience with biochar production and application at one of our workshops coming in Spring 2025

Consulting & Collaboration

We work with individuals, landowners, and organizations to develop tailored land management plans around carbon and biochar. Whether you're interested in using biochar for soil regeneration or mitigating fire risks, our team is here to guide you every step of the way.
